BUILDING SUBSIDY
MILD BOOM AT GISBORNE [Per United Press Association.] GISBORNE, September 12. A mild boom set in at Gisborne today, 43 subsidy applications being received, representing work the value of which is estimated at . £11,274. The aggregate total in Gisborne since the new scheme started is 216 applications, estimated at £107,000.
LAST-MINUTE RUSH
LARGE INDIVIDUAL APPLICATIONS [Per United Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, September 12. There was a last-minute rush of applicants to-day for the building subsidy. Included was an application for a job worth £25,000 for Winter Show purposes, and another worth £50,000, the purpose of which has not been disclosed. To-day the applications numbered 272 and yesterday 241. The value represented was £169,880, with a wages cost of £63,335. The total in Christchurch to date is 1,242 applications, valued at £718,416, with a wages cost of £252,262. The approvals numbered 460 and the refusals 35.
