HAWES BEATS FRANKLIN (Per United Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, September 12. Percy Hawes (Christchurch) beat •Too Franklin (Hawke's Bay) on points in. a feather-weight professional contest to-night. The margin of points was close, but Hawes shaded Franklin most of the way. It was announced that the Otago Boxing Association had matched Johnny Leckie with the winner of this bout for the title on October 2.
