ROWING

POST CHALMERS CLUB The sixty-first annual meeting of the Port Chalmers Rowing Club was presided over last night by Mr J. Y. Love (president). The Chairman referred to the death of Mr G. Anderson, their secretary’s father, and a resolution of sympathy was carried. The annual report noted the large number of races won last season. The club was represented at all the local regattas, also at the Waihola and Bluff fixtures. The form shown by the regatta crews was high, especially so in the case of the senior crew, which won the senior cup, and the junior crew, which won the junior cup. The diamond jubilee of the club was celebrated by the holding of a jubilee ball and a jubilee reunion smoke concert, both those functions being very successful. The jubilee bazaar was a success financially. The Chairman reviewed the past year’s activities in terms of approval. The report, he said, was creditable to the secretary. The jubilee year had been a memorable one. In spite of the handicap of the depression the year closed with a credit balance, thanks to the lady helpers. Last season there was particularly keen competition in rowing, and the senior rowing in Otago Harbour was of a very high order. He congratulated the winning crews on their wins. The club plant was in very good order. Mr Mackie endorsed the chairman’s appreciation of their secretary’s services. Mr 6. Thorn was a live wire in connection, with the jubilee activities. Mr Mackie acknowledged indebtedness to everyone who had helped to make the diamond jubilee so memorable. Their president took a very active part in all the activities. The following officers were elected:— Messrs J. Y. Love, president; G. Thorn, captain; M. Monti, deputy captain; L. Nelson, secretary; T. Scollay, auditor; T. Mackie, W. Lysaght, and J. Colthrop. delegates; J. Colthrop, T. Mackie, and R. Thompson, selectors; J. Solomon, T. Mackie, J. Broadley, and J. Colthrop, committee. Mr R. Anderson, the retiring secretary, was thanked for his services, regret being expressed that he was unable to accept office again.
