PUBLICATIONS RECEIVED
INDEX TO THE LAWS OF NEW ZEALAND We have received from the Government Printer the ‘ Index to the Law* of New Zealand.’ It is pointed out that the Index on this occasion has ■ been brought down to March 31, 1933, instead of December 31, 1932. This was felt to be necessary owing to the pro- ; longation of, the 1932 session until March of the following year. It includes the whole of the legislation ot the 1932-33 session, and also regulations gazetted prior to April 1, 1933. This has, of course, delayed the issue of the Index, but its'usefulness would have been, seriously impaired had it omitted the 1932-1933 legislation. This is . an extremely handy book of reference for those who have to deal with legal matters. THREE ECONOMIC PAPERS We have received from the Ramsay Publishing Proprietary, Limited, ‘ Melbourne, a pamphlet entitled ‘ Three Economic Papers,’ by Hylton B. Dali, F.R.S.A., F.R. Econ.S. The first is entitled ‘ The .Australian Tariff:. Its Cost of the Consumer in Australian Production.’ The next is on the Australian standard of living, and the third is entitled ‘ The Future.’ In this the author expresses the following view:— 11 We have reached the stage when the sovereignty of the State over all syndicates must be reasserted to protect the defenceless classes and the .general interest. The State, indeed, must discipline all associations of producers, and elevate them to a legal status whereby they will utilise their efforts so as to labour to increase production and, wealth for the State as a whole, but not by any means as a commune. Thus they _ will . not forget the nation when acting in the interests of class.”
