COMMUNITY SINGING

The weekly sing will take place on Friday in the Empire Theatre (by courtesy of the management) from 12.30 to 1.30 p.m. Doors will be open at noon, and to save congestion at the main entrance patrons are advised to enter at the Moray place door. This week’s sing is going to be an csceptionally good one, as men from H.M.A.S. Australia will assist in the special Rugby Day. Lieutenant N. A. C. Letch, R.A.N., has arranged a splendid programme for this occasion. The following are taking part:—N. C. A, Webster (master at arms); L. Harrison (leading stewards will be heard in song and patter; W. Bailey (stoker), who has a fine baritone voice, will sing ‘My Old Shako’ and ‘Absent’; Lieutenant N. A. C. Letch will give a humorous monologue; and Bandmaster E. Murray and Pettyofficer J. Homewood will play the cornet duet, ‘ Ida and Dot.' J. E. Johnson (telegraphist) will act as pianiste for the party. This part of the sing alone will bo very entertaining, and, in addition, the Puketeraki Maori Party, under Mr Dick Te Tau, will also be present and render Maori songs and hakas. Listeners-in are sure to have a most pleasant hour on Friday, and it is to be hoped that they willcsend in donations, so as to make this “Friday a record day. No matter how small, all donations will be gratefully received, and should be sent to the secretary, care Begg’s; Princes street, or to the Empire Theatre, and these will be acknowledged over tho air. Collections are for the mayor’s unemployment fund.
