POLICE COURT
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 13. (Before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. Robert Joseph Moore, a statutory first offender, was fined 12s 6d, or twenty-four hours. TROUBLESOME YOUTH. “This youth is quite incorrigible,” said Mr J. Lock, juvenile probation officer, of Ashley Maurice Deuchrass, who pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing Bs, the property of the Dunedin City Corporation. Chief-detective Young stated that the accused went to a house in Caversham occupied by a friend of his mother’s and forced open a gas meter, from which he removed 8s in money. He was found yesterday in the buildings at Bathgate Park, and was held there by the caretaker. There had been several thefts from that place, but there was no evidence that the accused had committed them. It appeared that, he’ left his homo about three weeks ago and went to Invercargill, returning to Dunedin later. During this time he was sleeping out in stables and under stacks. Deuchrass had previously appeared in the children’s court on two occasions. The Magistrate convicted and discharged the accused, and directed that he should bo sent back to the Weraroa Training Farm, where he had been detained before. His Worship added that if Deuchrass did not fit in there he could be sent to the Borstal.
