Interest in the queen competition is likely to reach fever pitch now that daily changes in the relative positions of the queen flags are to be noted. Once again the white pennant of the civic queen (Miss Billie Mitchell) has been overhauled by the sports colours, while the cinema flag has dropped back to third place, with services fourth. Afternoon tea will be provided. The Tennis Association’s carnival will be continued to-night, when a cabaret, competitions, and other frivolities will comprise the attractions. The coming week will bo the last opportunity of purchasing a golden apple or a cookery book. GALA DAY. Next Saturday a fitting conclusion has been arranged for the Sports Queen (Mrs R. Hudson) by the Otago Football Association. A varied and comprehensive programme, commencing at 1.30 with a representative hockey match between the best Otago team and a team from H.M.A.S. Australia, has been arranged. The Moruington Harrier and Amateur Athletic Club will run a aeries of athletic events during the interval of the hockey and football matches, and largo entries have been received for these events. A special feature of the afternoon’s entertainment will be the wrestling competitions. These are being arranged by the Otago Wrestling Association, and will bo staged at the conclusion of the hockey match on the open arena. This will give everyone present an uninterrupted view. The programme will be brought to a close, when supporters will have the opportunity of seeing the Otago Soccer team in action against a team from H.M.A.S. Australia. It is on very rare occasions that the public have had an opportunity of witnessing such a large and varied programme, and a very largo attendance of the public is expected. CIVIC QUEEN Sunday concerts have proved to be popular with the public during the carnival period, and the programmes provided on these occasions have been of a kind which, while not offending any reasonable person’s susceptibilities, have cheered many a citizen who, in these often depressing times, needed a musical tonic. To-morrow. will see the last of these carnival-period concerts, and the programme arranged by the Dunedin City Tramways Band for the Town Hall promises to bo a delightful one.' A number of leading artists, whoso names appear in an advertisement elsewhere in this issue, will assist the band. COSTER BALL. An air of mystery surrounds certain features which are to be introduced into the proceedings at the coster ball. There is, for instance, to be a_“ surprise ” interlude during the dancing, while other surprises are being prepared. It would appear that this last big dancing event of the carnival will be replete with novelties of a nature that should appeal strongly to dancers and spectators alike. One of the many delightful items which can be mentioned is that by Stan. Lawson’s coster ballet, during tho performance of which Miss Tui Northey will sing 4 When Are You Going to Lead Me to the Altar, Walter?’ SERVICES QUEEN Another children’s event to which the juveniles have looked forward is a “ party ” which the Services Queen Committee has arranged for to-night in the George Street Hall. It is for children thirteen years of age and under. Tho amusement park in the basement of tho Town Hall was again a centre of attraction last evening, when a variety of diversions and entertainments was provided for the supporters of tho services queen. The committee has contrived to make this feature of'its campaign very popular, and as a result of tho periodical sessions held there the funds of tho queen have benefited considerably. The concert party connected with the H.M.A.S. Australia, which has been performing in tho northern centres in aid of charitable objects, and creating a splendid impression by reason of the high standard of the talent in its ranks, has kindly consented to give a concert in the Concert Chamber on Friday evening next for the benefit of the services queen (Mrs Norah Ross),
