DROUGHT IN IRELAND

(Received September 7, at 10.10 a.m.) Drought is causing anxiety in Ireland, and the Shannon is closed for navigation above Athlone. Dublin is faced with a water famine, and parts of the city are rationed in expectation of the_ continuance of the longest dry spell since 1887. The lakes and rivers in Ireland are at their lowest levels in living memory. The reservoirs are more. than half empty. The harvest operations are suspended in many districts in order to water the cattle.
