Major-General W. L. H. SinclairBurgess, C. 8., C.M.G., D.S.O.,'General Officer Commanding the New Zealand Military Forces, and Colonel C. S. P. Nichols,_ D. 5.0., officer commanding the Southern Command, passed through Dunodiij this morning, after inspecting the Southland regiments. Major-Gene-ral Sinclair-Burgess is bound for Wellington, and Colonel Nichols for headquarters in Christchurch. Mr A. H. Allen left by the 11.35 express this morning, en route to Wellington. Under the charge of Mother De Pazzi, a party of sisters left this morning by the through express. They_ will attend the laying of the foundation-stone of the new' school at Northcote, Auckland.Mr W. Manson, who was well-known as a vocalist in Dunedin many years ago, is at present on a visit to this city. Mr Manson’s home is in London, where he has lived for the greater part of the time since he left Dunedin. The Very Rev. C. W. Carrington, formerly Dean of Christchurch, has beep appointed assistant priest at King’s Langley, Hertfordshire, England. Dr Row-land P. Wilson, a New Zealander who for many years has been superintendent of the Giza Opthalmio Hospital Laboratory, Cairo, has just concluded a tour of New Zealand, and has left for Sydney, en route to Cairo. Mr Walter H. Swauger, secretary of the Wanganui Education Board, will retire on superannuation at the end of the month. The resignation was accepted yesterday, the members paying a high tribute to his ability and know--ledge of administrative methods of education. Mr Swanger started in the board’s employ thirty-seven and a-half •years ago, rising to the position of sec-retary-treasurer in 1910. He is now one of the leading figures in the administration of education in the dominion. _ : New- visitors to the City Hotel include Messrs W. Kritsch and W. Shaw (Auckland), Mr G.
