OWAKA SCOUTS

October 20 .of this year marked the completion of the Owaka troop’s fifth year of service to the community; During part of last year and this, the ordinary work has been supplemented with gymnastic training, which, has proved a popular and useful course for the boys. In this good work they are indebted to Messrs Duncan and Jaquiery for their assistance always so willingly given. Instructions have been given in signalling, knotwork, first aid, hygiene, raapwork, and the activities of the cub pack. At all these meetings attendances have been well maintained. In spite of wet weather the camp was an enjoyable week in the open, due in .large measure to the generosity of the parents of the boys and the friends of the movement. The balance-sheet shows a small liability on account of the camp, but the boys have throughout the year been gradually reducing this. Best wishes are due to the loyal efforts of the as-sistant-scoutmasters, Messrs Miller and Stevens, and to the public, which has very loyally supported the troop. The following were elected officebearers for the year : —President, Mr ,1. W. Lopdell, secretary, Mr C. M. Allan. Committee, Rev. 11. Blair, Dr Johnson, Messrs Fraser, Duncan, Maginness, M'Lachlin, Jacquiery, Holland, Miller, Stevens. Ladies’ Committee, Mesdames Lopdell, Fraser, Winchester, Allan, Stephens, Buchanan, Holland, Turnbull, Roger.
