BIBLE DIFFICULTIES
M E. M. BLAIKLOGKS SOLUTION The York Place Hall was filled to capacity last night when Mr K. M. Blaiklock, M.A., lecturer in classics at the Auckland University, gave a very absorbing lecture on the subject of ‘ Difficulties in the Bible.’ The Rev. George Miller presided, and in introducing the speaker explained that the talk was to be given under the auspices of the Evangelical Bible League, which had been in existence for some years now. Making special reference to the moral difficulties of the Old Testament, Mr Blaiklock placed a new light on several portions of the Bible which had been misinterpreted. Ho showed how it was sometimes necessary to recognise the difficulties and to attack them from a negative point of view, and he frankly approached some of the difficulties which the book offered. In the Old Testament, he stated, many of the difficulties, were the result of man’s rashness and wrong interpretation. To emphasise several points raised, the lecturer chose certain passages from the Old Testament, and, by reconstructing, explained them in a new and'very feasible way. Separated from the perverse interpretation often given them, these verses presented an entirely different aspect, so it was wise to read them carefully and try to discover what lay behind and did not meet the eye. He hoped that he had shown that with a little thought and patience the troublesome passages would roll into place and become clear to readers, especially the younger folk. A vote of thanks to the lecturer was carried.
