At the Gore Court to-day, James Henry' Rotting faced a charge that spirits on which the full duty was not paid were found on his promises at Matuura on December 30. Under the Distillation Act, any person purchasing illicit whisky was liable to a fine of £SO and heavy imprisonment. The Magistrate (Mi; H. J, Dixon, S.M:), convicted the accused, stating that he had previously been warned. The accused, no doubt, carried on in a small way. Rotting ivas fined £IOO, and was given three months in which to pay.
