HOPEFUL SIGHS Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. CAPE TOWN, January 23. (Received January 24, at 12.5 p.m.) After prayers at the Assembly opening a man, evading the vigilance of She police, rushed across the lobby into the Assembly, waving his hands and shouting: “Oswald Pirow, I accuse you of corruption and maladministration.” A struggle followed with the attendants, and the House took a few minutes to recover its composure.
A motion by General Smuts to-mor-row in favour of a National Government is causing tense excitement. It is known that he and Air Roes conversed at the week-end, also that the Government’s position is not assailed. Neither the disaffected Nationalists nor the Creswellites will support the motion.
Mr Roes is insisting on a coalition without the dominance of either party. 'The Assembly . ratified the Ottawa agreement. General Smuts paid a warm tribute to the Minister of Finance (Mr Havenga). He said: “ We are at the day of small beginning’s that may lead to great developments.”
