N.Z.R.S.A. REVIEW

RECORD OF ACHIEVEMENT The latest number of the 1 New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association Review,’ which has just been forwarded to us, is in the nature of a special issue which fulfils the valuable purpose of tracing in retrospect the fine work that has been done by the association in all its branches throughout the dominion. This issue of the ‘ Review ’ succeeds admirably in its avowed aim, which is “to record the achievements of the N.Z.R.S.A. in its efforts to ensure that adequate and reasonable treatment be extended and maintained to those who, when war ravaged the world, in so many ways made sacrifices —even life itself—in order that peace and goodwill should prevail.” It also substantiates the claim that, in all their representations to the Government, deputations from the association have submitted reasonable demands, which not only have been given every consideration, but which also have in almost every case been granted. The main article includes a striking appreciation of the association written by the late Mr Justice O. T. Alpers, who exhorts the public not to become supine in their attitude towards the men who fought and suffered in the Great War, and particularly towards the multitudes who are still suffering. The official record commences with data _ concerning the formation of the institution in 191 G,

and goes on to trace what was accomplished during the remaining war years and after peace was declared. That the watchful eye of the association is always bearing on the question of pensions is evident. There is also a summary of the unemployment and rehabilitation measures. The publication is noteworthy for excellent photographs of H, U.TT. the Prince of Wales, New Zealand’s Governor - General (Lord Bledisloo), Major-general Sir A. H.Russell, and Mr W. Perry (dominion vice-president of the association).
