The second express for the north this morning carried several members of the House of Representatives, who are returning to Wellington in-time for the next Parliamentary session. Those who travelled by the train were: Messrs Peter M'Skimming (Clutha), P. de la Perelle (Awarua), and D. Al'Dougall (Mataura). Mr A. E. _ Ansell (Chalmers) is already in Wellington, and Mr W. A. Bodkin (Wakatipu) went north this morning by car. Mr J. B. Callan travelled to Christchurch to-day by the second express. Messrs R. Hudson and E. H. Lough were passengers for Christchurch today by the second express. Mr “Leo du Chateau, advance representative for the J. C. Williamson’s Dame Sybil Thorndike Company, left for Invercargill to-day in order to make arrangements for performances to be given there on Monday and Tuesday of next week. Sir Thomas Sidey, M.L.C., returned to Dunedin by the afternoon express from the north on Saturday. In succession to Sub-inspector T. Gibson, promoted from Auckland to be inspector in charge of Southland, Seniorsergeant J. Sweeney, of Hamilton, has been appointed chief detective at Auckland. Detective-sergeant R. J. Issell,who has been police photographer and has also filled the position as fingerprint expert in the Criminal Investigation Department, is to go to Stratford as a sergeant in the uniform branch, and will be in charge there. Mr Lgn Annand, a member of the Council of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association, is at present visiting Dunedin. He leaves to-morrow for Invercargill to act as an official at the New Zealand intermediate and junior swimming championships being held there. Sergeant W. H. Dunlop, at present in charge of the Lyttelton police station, has been promoted to seniorsergeant from February next, and as far as is known his promotion is without transfer. Sergeant Dunlop joined the police force at Christchurch in 1908, and was transferred to the Addington station three years later. During 1916 he was sent to take_ charge of the South Invercargill police station, and in 1919 had charge at the Queenstown station. In 1921 he was promoted to sergeant and went to Dunedin, where he remained until 1928. Since 1928 he has been in charge of the Lyttelton, station. Billiards and bowling are his main hobbies. Sergeant Dunlop was born at Dunedin, where he received his education. Before joining the police force he was for some time engaged in farming, and on one occasion was specially mentioned in _ the ‘Police Gazette ’ for his work in connection with the arrest of a desperate criminal.-, Christchurch correspondent. Robinson (London), Air Donald Y.Eccles (Nafferton, England), Air Howard Aloody (Auckland), Air Charles Todd, Alr'j. Donagliue (Wellington),Air and Mrs A. E. Sharman (Christ-; church).
