The Minister of Internal Affairs (Hon. A. Hamilton), asked whether he had any statement to make in regard to the position since the withdrawal of the Government guarantee bonus on deer skins, stated that the position was quite satisfactory, and there was still a market for doer skins which he thought should bo efficiently handled by private enterprise. It was known that numbers of men had been making a living from the proceeds of deer skins, and although the guarantee of a bonus had been withdrawn the Department of Internal Affairs was still prepared to accept skins in the event of any difficulty being found by persons holding skins in marketing them, and while there, was no Government guarantee in the matter the department in the meantime would nay Is dlb per pound dry weight for first grade skins. The position of the deer menace, Mr Hamilton added, appeared'to bo coming under control and to‘a satisfactory state.
