WORKERS’ MOVEMENT A special meeting of the U.W.M. was held in the Biiou Hall on Thursday evening. Mr J. Gilchrist presided over a very large attendance of members. Correspondence was read from Mr G. A. Lewin, the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, the Christchurch U.W.M., and the Green Island U.W.M. A notice of motion regarding the alteration of rule 18 was carried. A notice of motion about expelled members and admittance was lost, hut, on application being made, each member will be considered. Reports were received on a single men’s meeting held recently, and an Alliance of Labour meeting. Delegates appointed to attend a united front conference gave a report of it, stating that a full provisional committee had been appointed from industrial unions and unemployed organisations, and that the first meeting would he held on Monday, January 23, in the Bijou Hall, at 8 p.m. Speakers were selected for open meeting at the Oval to-morrow at 2.30 p.m. Mrs G. Maitland and Mr Geo. Goddes were elected by ballot for two seats on the executive. The picnic report was received, and the committee was thanked for making the outihg a success. GREEN ISLAND DANCE The Green Island Unemployed Social Committee will hold a dance in the Town Hall, Green Islaud, on Wednesday, January 25, at 8 p.m. Dancing will continue till 2 a.m. The function will take the _ form of a tennis dance, and there will be an exhibition dance by a well-known dancer, in addition to other novelties. The music will ho supplied by the well-known Smith s Jubilee Dance Band, the proceeds to co in aid of sick members. Admission will be ladies Is, gents 2s. Supper will he provided, and a bus will leave for town after the dance.
