PORT CHALMERS REGATTA
The Port Chalmers regatta should provide a pleasant outing with a dash of excitement to-morrow afternoon. The harbour’s biggest prize money has attracted the season’s record entries* Fifty crews have entered for rowing* The senior fours—one crew has entered, from each of the four rowing clubs—are expected to provide excitement* The strokes are well-known .oarsmen. The senior pairs—two entries from each,’ of the four clubs—should be exceptionally keen. . Four of the first class yachts will show-the modern mareoni rig.': These include the. popular Dawn, also the Viking, which will race in-this rig for the first time. The 18ft sailing class will include all the 14-footers, and the Avalon will display her qualification to represent Otago for the Sanders Cup. All the courses were led off and flagged to-day. The rowing, sailing, and motoring courses are laid clear or each other, in order that: all the races may proceed simultaneously without hindrance. All the rowing events finish 1 between the George. street wharf and the Broxton, the other races starting and finishing near the end of the wharf.
