MUNICIPAL RATES
FIGURES FOR THE CHIEF CENTRES STATEMENT BY TOWN. CLERK The town clerk (Mr G. A. LeWin) supplies the following interesting set of figures showing the total amount of rates levied in each of the four centres for the financial years to March, 1932 and 1933 respectively:—
The reductions and percentages, of reduction for Auckland, Christchurch, and Dunedin are r—Auckland, £12,236, or 1.97 per cent.; Christchurch, £6Ol, or 0.18 per cent.; Dunedin, £29,298, or 9.62 per cent. Wellington had an increase of £7l. In the case of Dunedin the reduced demand on the ratepayers for the year ending March, 1933, of £29,298, as compared with the total demand for the year 1932, is made up approximately of £19,300 due to a reduction in the basic rate,, while the balance of slightly more than £9,900 is due to adjustments in the rateable valuation in the city as assessed at this time last year.
