A plea for economic disarmament is made the preamble of the experts’ report which is being submitted to the World Conference, in which they express grave fears for the world’s economic, financial, and social systems if the'conference fails. The experts emphasise that world prices have dropped one-third and wheat prices are the lowest for forty year's. Yet there is an anomaly, as in some protected markets the prices are five times above normal. Furthermore, the exports of some countries are insufficient to meet the service of foi'eign debts. Tho value of world trade for the first half of 1932 was only one-third of the same period in 1929. There is unanimity that gold is the most suitable medium of economic intercourse, but it is qualified by so many provisions that no' suggestion of an early return to gold is
