Their Excellencies Lord and Lady Blodisloe and party left Dunedin by the 11.35 train this morning, intending to cross Cook Strait to-night. The mayor (Mr Black), the deputy-mayor (Mr Mitchell), and citizens of all classes gathered near to the Ministerial carriage, and in response to the GovernorGeneral’s smile-accompanied message—- “ A merry Christmas and a happy New Year to you all ’’—hearty cheers were raised as the carriage moved off. Mr J. M'Coll Dickson travelled today by train from Dunedin to Christchurch. Messrs J. H. MtPhee and H. Greenfield left by train this morning in charge of the two teams from the Otago Boys’ Cricket Association that are to play at Christchurch for tho Biltcliff and Ris Cups. Dr Gordon N. Findlay, son of Mr and Mrs Peter Findlay, iloslyn, having completed Ids medical course at Dun- , edin, left by train this morning to take up the position .of house surgeon at Wanganui Hospital. Mr W, H. Shepherd returned to Dunedin yesterday, * __ Sir James Mills is returning to_ New. Zealand by the motor liner Ilangitat.a, * which is due at Auckland on Wednesday next from London. Mr A. Leslie, M.R.C.Y.S., veterin- ; arian at Lincoln College, lias been awarded the diploma of Fellow of tho i Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, ; London, for his thesis on research into diseases of sheen in Canterbury. Mr W. H. Shepherd,, managing direc- J tor of the Bell Tea Company Ltd., who has been visiting India, Ceylon, and , other parts of the'East, studying the i latest methods in the production of tea, 'I returned to Dunedin last evening. J Mr D. A. Palmer, who has been , transferred from the Invercargill ij branch of the Post Office money order ? and savings bank to headquarters, Weilington, arrived_ in Dunedin to-day • prior to departing to Wellington to take up his new duties.
