BATTERY CARNIVAL

FINALS OF COMPETITIONS TO-NIGHT Those who visited the carnival organised by the non-commissioned officers of the 12th and 14th Batteries, at the Central Battery, Victoria road, last night were provided with plenty of amusement. The entertainments include roll-downs, bargain stalls, a wireless station from which messages can be sent by visitors to their, friends, and a special shooting device, while an excellent floor for dancing is provided at the cabaret, which is proving very popular. The object for which the carnival lias been organised is the raising of funds to provide inew social rooms and a kitchen in the battery training grounds. The battery non-commissioned officers, however, will not be the only ones who will benefit when sufficient money has been raised to carry out the improvements, as any unit training at the battery will be able to obtain a hot meal. Last night’s attractions included a display by the gymnastic squad from the Y.M.C.A. and a . burlesque item, ‘ A Scottish Invasion,’ which depicted the first historical record of the 14th Battery in an engagement. The Artillery Band (Southern Command) 2>rovided an acceptable programme. The finals of the guard-mounting competition and the tug-of-war contest are to be staged to-night, while the 12th_ (Field) _ Battery, N.Z.A., will provide an incident of Omdurman, * Fuzzy-Wuzzies on the Rush.’ Music will be_ supplied by the Band of the Ist Battalion, Otago Regiment.
