SUMMER PERIL
AUSTRALIAN BUSH FIRES OUTBREAKS IN NEW SOUTH WALES Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, December 14. (Received December 14, at 11 a.m.) Bush fires destroyed over 30,000 acres of grassland in the Riverina. An outbreak near Oaklands swept 17,000 acres, destroyed large numbers of sheep, razed fencing, and cut off homesteads before it was subdued by 200 firefighters. Spreading to the railway line, the fire ignited sleepers, and forced the train from Urana to Oaklands to turn back. Smaller outbreaks occurred at other centres, sheep and cattle perishing.
