THE LATE MR JAMES HORN
EDUCATION BOARD TDIBDTE The death of Air James Horn was the subject of feeling reference at this morning’s meeting of the Otago Education Board. The Chairman (Air James Wallace) said that they had known that Air Horn had been ill, but not one of them anticipated the end that had come. All the members had known him many years. He had been on the board for sixteen years, and no member had been more assiduous in his attention to his duties. He came to the board with a good idea of local body procedure, and brought to the execution of his duty a common sense very valuable to the board. Mr Wallace duobted if any man in Central Otagp knew the district better, and the board had been the gainer by association with him. He was the best bargainer they had ever had on the board, and had got it out of some rather tight corners in connection with the purchase of sections. In various ways he had been an ideal man in a board such as this. Air Wallace then presented the following resolution; — “ The Otago Education Board has heard with great regret of the death of Air James Horn, who was for sixteen years a member. The board desires to place on record its deep sense of the loss it has sustained in the death of Mr Horn, whose knowledge and general common sense were of so great value to it. Ho knew his district as few know it, and his constituents had a faithful representative. The board expresses its sincere sympathy with his family in their loss.” "Mr J. Smith seconded the motion, saying that the Central schools had lost a brilliant and sincere friend. After Mr D. T. Fleming had added a tribute, the motion was carried, members standing in silence.
