INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTS
ANNUAL MEETING OF OTAGO BRANCH Hip annual meeting of the Otaga branch of the New Zealand Institute of Architects was held recently, when a full report of the activities of . the branch for the year was presented. Although the architectural profession is suffering severely from the present depressed conditions, the report showed, that, there had been considerable activity during the yeap in matters of public interest. The agitation for the erection of the new post office was followed very closely, and lent’ valuable assistance in. connection with this movement. The No. 10 scheme fop, subsidised building also engaged the attention of tire' branch during the year*, and representatives from it took an' active part in furthering _ building activity in this, city under this schema in association with the Otago allied building industries. The question of plans being prepared by others than properly qualified architects had also been carefully considered by the branch. It was pointed out that a small and jll-advised section ofi the general public who had accepted plans and specifications prepared by] unqualified persons received a very poon return for their outlay, as the work was often Jacking in proper constructional planning and external design. Mr K. -Miller was elected chairman! of the branch for the ensuing year.
