TO THE EDITOR. Sifj—l was pleased with the criticism in tliis evening’s ‘ Star ’ of the Dunedin Choral Society’s performance, as 1 consider the report tended to build up, rather than destroy, an effort which has the whole-hearted enthusiasm of Dunedin amateur musicians. lam not concerned with “ What Next ” thinks as to the tempos which were adopted on Saturday, as my opinion is that it was the brightest rendering of ‘ The Messiah ’ that I, have heard in Dunedin to date. I wonder what Handel would think of our modern motor funerals? I rather think his ‘ Dead March ’ tempo would be noticeably accelerated. If “ What Next ” had an car for absolute pitch, and had not been led away by the organ’s Continental pitch, he would have given credit to the orchestra for its skilful playing—especially the clarionets and horns.—l am, etc., Build Up.
