OPIUM DISTRIBUTOR
CHINESE FINED £SO [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, December 13. A Chinese fruiterer named Allan Lum On, aged thirty-two, appeared in the Police Court to-day charged with unlawfully having in his possession twentyone packets of prepared opium. Detective-sergeant Kelly said the accused would not disclose where the drug was obtained. A bank book in the possession of the accused, who was described by Mr M'Hugh as a distributor of opium, showed a credit of £BO. Answering Mr Kelly, the accused denied that the baijk book was in connection with an opium “ trust.” He said the money belonged to his brother, who was a carrier, “He makes more money than most carriers,” stated the magistrate. Tho accused was fined £SO, in default three months’ imprisonment.
