LAWN TENNIS. SUBSIDISED PLAYERS. Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, December 12. (Received December 13, at 2 p.m.) The annual meeting of the Lawn Tennis Association elected Sir Samuel Hoare president. Mr H. Monckton moved that the rules bo amended m order to make a “ subsidised player ” ineligible for the committee, or to compete in a tournament, except at the national championships. He said that there was no vise burking the fact that there was much insidious subsidising. They wanted it brought into the open. The meeting accepted the proposal. Mr Monckton then proposed that competitors in tournaments, except, the national championships, should ■ make a declaration that they were not directly or indirectly under an obligation to further the business of any firm, or were receiving financial assistance, rebate, or hospitality. The meeting agreed to an alternative proposal that notice to the same effect as the declaration should be inserted in the ehtry forms, except those for the national championships.
AUSTRALIAN SWIMMERINVITATION TO TOUR NEW ZEALAND. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, December 13. (Received December 13, at 1 p.m.) An invitation has been received from the New Zealand Swimming Association that Phillips be allowed to tour the dominion in March. The New South Wales Association has asked for a copy of the itinerary and details as to the amount of travelling. These particulars must be approved before the way is clear for acceptance of the invitation. The visit of Ryan and Griffiths to New Zealand is still fresh in official memory. The two tourists on that occasion have not forgotten the strain. There was too much travelling and too many appearances which the itinerary entailed.
