KINDERGARTEN BREAK-UPS

KAIKORAI Parents and friends were present in large numbers at the break-up of the Kaikorai Kindergarten this morning. “ Once again wo have come to the end of a school year—a year eventful in the history of the kindergarten movement, as wp were compelled to carry on without any assistance from Government grants,” _ remarked Mrs R. A. Ewing, vice-president of the Dunedin Free Kindergarten Association. At the beginning of the year they had been full of anxiety as to the continuation of the work. Kaikorai had been one of the kindergartens it had been found necessary to close, but owing to the generosity of the local committee, which nobly came to the association’s assistance, they had been able to reopen the school for the remainder of the year. They owed a debt of gratitude to thp committee. It was pleasing to be in a position to announce that, with the support of the committee, they would be able to carry on for another year, commencing on February 7. Mrs Ewing then thanked the parents for their co-operation, during t'vo difficult but nevertheless successful year Without their co-operation the kindergartens would have had to close. To the staff she extended the thanks of the association for its loyal support. The past year of difficulty had proved to them that they had many friends, and all who had assisted were to be heartily thanked.

On behalf of the parents, Airs Smith spoke of their appreciation of the fine work of Miss G. Saunders and her staff, each member of which was presented with a suitable token. The children entertained those present with a number of little games, after which the gifts on the Christmas tree were distributed amongst the children to present to their mothers and fathers.

Due to whooping cough breaking out in the district, the Richard Hudson Kindergarten break-up ceremony was cancelled yesterday afternoon.
