The electric ray timing apparatus, ■which has been in general use on the principal greyhound tracks of England for several years, is now being used to time horse races. When the barrier rises the timing instrument is set in motion by electrical contact. It stops when tho winning horse breaks a ray of light projected from tho judge’s box on to the winning post. The ray is invisible and cannot alarm the horses.
