'THE MESSIAH'
The perfox-mance of Handel’s ‘ Messiah ’ by the Chox-al Society in the Town Hall on Saturday night will be the greatest thing the society has yet attempted. The rendering of the complete work, without any deletions, is an enterprise that calls for a good deal of courage and determination; but the conductor, Mr Alfred Walmsley, has full confidence in the large choir he has carefully trained and in the very efficient orchestra ho has been able to select. The soloists, xvho have been brought from as far north as Wellington and as far south as Invercargill, are sure to give general satisfaction. Mrs Wilfrid Andrews (alto) will make a very welcome reappearance after a long absence from Dunedin. Miss Evelyn Shepard (soprano), the only local soloist, is expected to add to her already considerable reputation, and her singing of ‘ I Know That My Redeemer Liveth should make that item one of enthralling beauty. Mr L. E. Dailey, now of Invercargill, has undoubtedly one of the most beautiful tenor voices in the dominion, while Mr Denis Dowling (bass) is a young singer who should justify his presence in such distinguished company. The accompaniments will be furnished in part by the full orchestra and in part by the organ. The box plans are now open at The Bristol. j
