BROADCASTING OF BAND MUSIC.

TO THE EDITOR. tS Sir, I happened to be speaking to the bandmaster of the Ist Battalion Otago Regimental Rand, and asked him the reason as to why we never bear Ids band through 4YA, and he informs || me that lie has interviewed the mana- || ger of 4YA on the subject, and upon || receiving no satisfaction he wrote to j® Wellington, and received the following ||S in reply:—“The matter was submitted ||| to the station director of 4YA for coin- ||| ment, and the position is that it is con- 3* sidered that tho standard of performmice reached by the Regimental (land is not sufficiently high to justify engngemenls for tho presentation of pro- 8S grammes over the air.” 1 consider ||| that we have in this band one of the 31 finest musical combinations in the do- || minion, and to state that this hand is M not up to standard for broadcasting is 8$ ridiculous.. I was one of thousands ||| who bad tbe pleasure of listening to || thi-s band every night ior the week S| during the last winter show, and it is 9 the only band we have in Dunedin that || could handle the class of programmes || it put over. I would like to see this || matter taken up in your columns, and perhaps we could get the reason as to S 3 why this hand has been barred from |1 broadcasting through 4YA.— I am, etc., 3® Military Music. jh October 12. |i|
