CAVERSHAM SCHOOL COMMITTEE

Mr T. A. Brown presided over a_ full attendance at the monthly committee meeting on Monday last. Accounts to the amount of £l6 13s were passed .for payment. A preliminary statement of the annual concert proceeds showed an approximate net return of £42. The committee expressed its warm appreciation of the services rendered by the scholars and staff, and also of the cooperation afforded by parents in providing special dresses and costumes. The performers at the concert numbered in all 275. A very satisfactory canvass of tile district in connection with the Dunedin Training College petition was reported. The head master’s report showed a roll total of 725, with an average attendance of 695. A further donation of 10s had been received for the dental clinic fund. The winter sports results showed a very satisfactory season. The A team, Rugby, •gained 6, the bantam A 17, and the’ B 14 cup points. The basketball A 1. team gamed 18 and the A H. 13 cup points. The basketball team acquitted itself very creditably in the tournament, being defeated by the winners. The boys’ hockey A team scored 6 and the B team 8 cup points, and Caversham also provided the winners of the seven-a-side hockey tournament. Representative honours were gained by four hockey and two Rugby players. The committee entertained the members of the hockey teams at a “ singsong and supper ” evening, a very pleasant evening being concluded by the passing of a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Hinton, who had devoted valuable time to the coaching of the boys and to whose assistance much of the season’s success was duo.
