The Dominion Meteorologist (Dr E. Kidson) supplied the following at noon to-day:—The indications are for variable and moderate breezes, southerly moderate prevailing; weather cloudy to overcast, misty rain is to be expected _ on parts of coast, later weather improving; barometer rising slowly; sea moderate, tides moderate. The Waipiata arrived early this afternoon from Auckland via ports to discharge cargo. She is to sail to-night for Bluff, and is to return to this port on Monday to load and sail that day for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Auckland. The Opilii is now due hero next Thursday to load cargo for Onmarn, Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, Nelson, and New Plymouth. The Norwegian tanker Svolder was scheduled to clear San Francisco on September 15 with bulk fuel oil for discharge at Lyttelton and Wellington. She is due at Lvttclton about October 10 The Union Company’s steamer Waipalii, at present laid up at Auckland, is to leave there next Saturday for Fiji, Samoa, and Tonga to load for Auckland. After discharging general cargo at Auckland, Napier, and Wellington, the O. and O. Line steamer Golden Harvest is to load at Lyttelton next week. THE FERRY SERVICE. The Rangatira, from Wellington, arrived at Lyttelton at 0.50 this morning, and passengers and mails caught the south express. TAMAROA AT SOUTHAMPTON. The Tamaroa, which left Auckland on August 20 for Southampton and London via Panama and Curacao, arrived at Southampton on Friday ingTAINUI LEAVES BALBOA. En route from Southampton, the Tainui left Balboa on Monday. She is now duo at Wellington on October 18. CITY OF DELHI EARLY. The A. and A. Line’s chartered steamer City of Dolin' arrived at Auckland on Tuesday night from New York, five days ahead of schedule. The vessel has American cargo for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Australian ports, and is duo at Dunedin about October 9, CARGO FROM LIVERPOOL. The Shaw, Savill Company advises that tlio motor ship Taranaki is scheduled to leave Liverpool on October 29 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, ami Bluff. She is due to reach Auckland on December 8, and Dunedin on December 17. WAIKAWA FROM PACIFIC COAST. The Waikawa is due at Auckland on October 2 from Los Angeles via Rarotonga. In addition to fruit from Rarotonga the vessel has cargo from Pacific Coast ports for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Sydney. WAIKOUAITT LEAVING SYDNEY. Through waiting to pick up overseas transhipments, the Union Company’s steamer Waikonaili did not leave Sydney yesterday, hut was timed to got away to-day for Bluff, Dunedin, Timaru, Lyttelton, and Oamarn, and is now due here next Wednesday. PERSONAL. Captain A. P. Gibson, who is in command of the luaha. has with him the following officers:—Mate, Mr K. Lavcrtou ; child' engineer, Mr E. R. Morse; second, Air A. I. Traill. THE RARANGA. To complete discharge of her London cargo the Shaw, Savill steamer Raranga arrived at Wellington on Monday morning from Auckland. She is to leave Wellington to-day for Napier to commence her Homeward loading, and will later complete at New Plymouth, Wellington, Lyttelton, and I’ort Chalmers. The Raranga is to clear Port Chalmers finally on October 15 for London via Cape Horn SALE OF ULIMAROA RUMOUR ED. Rumours were current in Sydney about a fortnight ago that an Eastern firm was negotiating for the HuddnrtParkei steamer Ulimaroa, which is at present laid up m the harbour, stated

the ‘ Daily Telegraph.’ Sydney officials stated that they know nothing of tlio negotiations, but it was likely that they were being carried on with the head office in Melbourne. The Ulimaroa was o verb aided recently. W E L LING TON-LYTT ELTON SERVICE. The llangai ira will withdraw from the Wcllingloii-LyUelton ferry service on arrival at Wellington on Sunday, October 9, and she will resume running on Alonday, October 17. The Wahinc is undergoing overhaul preparatory fo being recommissioned. She will leave Wellington for Lyttelton on Alonday, October 10, in place of the Rangatira. On arrival at Wellington on Sunday, October 16, the Wabino will wait over and sail on Tuesday, October IS, and continue in tlio service in place of the Maori, winch will withdraw at Wellington on 'Tuesday, October 18, and will bo laid up for the summer months. THIRD MATSON LINER. The passenger and cargo vessel Lurline, the last of the three 18,500-ton Matson liners ordered from the Bethlehem Shipbuilding Corporation, has been launched at Quincy (Alass.). Like the Mariposa and the Monterey, her two predecessors- down the ways, the Lurliuo is 642 ft in overall length, 79ft in beam, 28ft in loaded draught, and of 26,000 tons displacement. Tim bull is divided into sixteen watertight compartments, with nine decks, and a double bottom throughout, while the bulkheads are so arranged that the Kliip would rems-rn alloat with any two compartments flooded. Accommodation is provided for 672 passengers—443 first class and 229 cabin. Propulsion is from three steam turbines working tborngb single reduction gearing on two shafts, the total norma) output being 22,000 s.h.p., with a maximum of 25,000 s.h.n., which assures a service speed of 20.5 knots.
