YACHTING

NDRTH-EAST HARBOUR CLUB The annual meeting of the Northeast Harbour Boating Club was held in the club shed last night. There was a largo attendance of members, presided over by Mr W. H. Riddell (commodore) . in moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, the Chairman said the club had experienced a very busy year and a successful one, and he would like to thank all who had contributed in any way to that success. They were especially indebted to the members of the Ladies’ Committee, who bad been of great assistance at social functions, dub openings, etc. During the year the usual dub races had been mu, and bad drawn good entries, and for the success of those competitions a great deal of credit was due to three officers—the secretary (Mr C. J. Hook) and the handicappevs (Messrs F. Percy and J. Barton). Improvements had been carried out to the shed, the slipway, and the starting gear, and they were in a position to say that no other dub in the harbour had such extensive and up-to-date material. Referring to the Rowing Club, the Chairman said it was somewhat behind in its financial obligations to the Boating Club, but lie thought it was their duty to help the weaker body and thus endeavour to foster aquatic sport in the harbour. The Chairman referred to the financial position of the dub, which, he remarked, was a very healthy one considering the conditions. The motion was seconded by Mr G. F. Bewley, who declared that the members of the dub had every right to fed satisfied with the work of the past year, and paid a tribute to the work of the outgoing committee. The motion was carried. Fifteen new members wore elected. The President of the Otago Yacht and Motor Boat Association (Mr W. O. Martin), who was present, referred to the success of the combined opening and the combined picnic, which, he thought, would be annual fixtures. Perhaps the most important business carried out by the association last year was the alterations of the rules, but he wished those present to understand that these were merely suggestions to the dubs, although lie felt that they would be generally adopted. Mr Martin said this was a very small harbour, and they had only a small number of boats, so that it behoved the various dubs to work together for the good of the sport. He concluded by congratulating the dub on its financial position. Captain Nicholas moved, in accordance with notice ho had given, that the dub’s shed, outbuildings, and plant be held in (rust by the two trustees appointed at the annual meeting. The mover said they were adding to and improving their property all the time, but (hero was no one directly responsible for it, and he thought this should bo rectified.—Mr W. H. Riddell seconded the motion, which was carried. A motion by Mr A. Challis, sen., that no new members be elected at the annual meeting until the election of officers had taken place, was seconded by Mr F. Percy and carried. Several minor alterations to the rules were effected, one of these being designed to bring the chib under the Otago Yacht Association instead of the Yacht Club, as at present. The Chairman mentioned that Mr IT. Fulton had offered to present a shield for club competition, and the incoming committee would decide the conditions under which it would be competed for. > The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:—Commodore, Captain E. R. Nicholas; vicecommodore, Mr J. Vivian; rear-com-modore, Mr D. Jenkins; club captain, Mr R. Ross; secretary, Mr C. J. Hook; treasurer, Mr E. Yates; committee—Messrs R. Hellyer. J. Barton, A. Campbell, A. Challis, sen., A. E. Hellyer, E. Percy, If. Stunner, and L. .Miller: auditor, Mr J. A. C, Spence; trustees, Messrs H. Macandrew and A. M‘Hutcheon ; delegates to the association.
