MEETING OF DIRECTORS

The monthly meeting of the Young Men’s Christian Association Board of Directors was held on Tuesday evening. Mr 3- L. Salmond presided, and the following were also present;—.Messrs ■). R. Taii-bairn, M. C. Henderson, P. Findlay, N. Mollison, C. J. Darracntt. J. M‘Ara, H. K. Wilkinson. C. M‘Kinnon, and H. P. West. Tt was decided to forward letters ol svmpathv to Messrs -J. M‘George and W. J Brown, of the directorate, and Miss Fcichley. of the staff, in their illness, wishing them a speedy recovery. The General Secretary reported that as a result of a special effort outstanding fees were now coming in in a satisfactory manner. A new system of membership registration had been installed. and this was proving much more satisfactory. A large amount of work was being done in connection with the unemployed boy problem, and special efforts were being made by the staff in tho provision of gymnastic, re-creational.-and social classes. A room had been provided for Mi -1. M'Crncken, of the W.K.A.. who delivered a weekly lecture specially prepared to interest and instruct the boys. It was reported that Mr Percy Tnote had consented to attend the Y’.M.C.A. between 10 and 11 o’clock on Tuesday and Friday mornings to assist in the detail work in connection with the hovs enrolled and enrolling in Technical College. W.F.A., and Y.M.C.A. groups. Matters in the religious department were reported to be in a satisfactory condition. The residents Service Preachers’ Club staff meeting and directors’ prayer session were being regularly held. In connection with the Big Brother movement the GeneraPsSccretary reported that twenty-four little brothers were in. control of the movement, and big brothers were being provided for each.

The House Committee reported that matters in this department were improving considerably. Certain .alterations were made and approved. It was decided to advertise the hostel, this provision being. principally to attract youths coming to the city to lake np employment. The boys’ work report was presented by Mr .), I?. Fairbairn, who made special mention of tho recent father and son banquet. A challenge from the new cricket club to play the directors on the opening day. October 8, was accepted. The General Secretary reported that, nermission had been granted by the City Council for a street day on Fri day. October 2S, and that a suburban canvas would foil w. Help was being offered in many quarters.
