OTAGO TRAMPING CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING The ninth annual meeting of the Otago Tramping Club was held in Lake’s .Restaurant last evening, the President (Air D. G. Wright) occupying the chair over a, largo attendance. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, the Chairman said that the season just ended Ifad been a very successful one, all the trips being well attended and providing enjoyable outings. Financially, the club was in a very satisfactory position, a credit balance of £B7 0s 8d being revealed. Mr Gilkinson, in seconding the adoption of the report, said that the membership had been well maintained and that at least twenty of the original members were still taking an active part in the club. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. OFFICE-BEARERS. The election of office-bearers resulted :—President, Mr R. Gilkison ; vice-presidents, Air Andrew Thompson and Miss A. F. Edmond; secretary and treasurer, Air G. A. Pearson; auditor, Air E. W. Hunter; committee— Alisses E. Park and L. Summerfield, and Alessrs A. S. Dnthie, R. Watt, A. AI. Twhigg, and R Aleggett; Social Committee—Alisses E. Park, L. Sinnmerfield, L. Davidson, A. Indcr, and G. Stevenson. SEASON’S TRIPS. The newly-elected President then outlined the proposed trips for the Labour Day week-end and for the Christmas ” holidays. Arrangements were being made to again visit Bendoran Huts during Labour Day weekend, while Lake Gunn, he said, was the objective at the end of the year. An invitation was received from the Oamaru Ladies Tramping Chib for Otago members to join it at Palmerston on Labour Day.—Left to the discretion of members. “ MYSTERY TRAINS.” The Secretary reported that there was a. possibility of the Railway Department running a “ mystery ” train on Labour Day. Air Gasgoyne raised the question as to whether it would be advisable for the club to arrange an outing on Labour Day when the department would be expecting full support from the Tramping Club. The Chairman: The club cannot hold up its arrangements because the department is thinking about running a mystery train. The matter was left in the hands of the committee. SIGNAL HILL TRACK.

A member raised the question of improving the tracks during the coming season. Special reference was made to the track over Signal Hill, the secretary reporting that as the track led through private property there was no chance of getting unemployed funds spent on it. Air Ritchie said he had been informed that Air B. R. Smith, of Dunedin, had granted ten acres ail'd donated £IOO to make a track over Signal Hill. The Chairman: Multiple control provides the greatest difficulty. If anything is done, somebody will cry out that it is wrong. Air Gasgoyne reported that the road was now being formed to the south through Farqnharson’s farm, and he did not think that it would bo wise for the club to spend any money until the unemployed were finished on the road. The matter was left in the hands of the committee.

A social and dance followed the general business.
