WORKERS' ENTERTAINMENT

A delightful and varied entertainment was held in the Bijou Hall under the auspices of the Unemployed Workers’ Movement on Tuesday evening to a packed house. Mr Geddes in a short adress outlined improvements that could be made in the present system. A community sing was held and descriptive pictures shown by Mr J. Gilchrist, accompanied at the piano by Miss E. Mathieson. A short concert programme, supplied by Miss Jimsie Fraser’s party was enjoyed. The following contributed items; —Highland fling, Miss Nancy Goodlet; soprano solos, Mrs John Hamer; whistling solos, Mr Richard Kelly; vocal solos, Mrs E. Black: Seann Truibhais, Miss N. Goodlet; vocal duet. Miss Jimsie Fraser and Mrs Charles Samson; mouth organ selections, Mr G. Silva; vocal solos, Mrs Chas. Samson; humorous selection, Mr Rob. Currie; bagpipe solo, Mr Angus MTntosh; recitation, Mr R. Currie; humorous items, Mr O’Borke, jun.; pianoforte solos, Miss E. Mathieson; vocal solos, Mrs S. Iken. At the conclusion of the concert the audience joined in singing ‘ Auld Lang Syne,’ pictures of thS song being screened by Mr John Gilchrist, A bountiful supper was then provided for all, and in addition fruit and sweets were distributed among the children. Dancing was continued until midnight to music supplied by the Venetian Orchestra, 200 couples taking part. Credit is due to Mr O’Rorke (secretary) and the committee for their splendid organisation. Piper Angus MTntosh supplied the bagpipe music and Miss E. Mathieson was the pianist.
