COMING-OF-AGE PARTY

Mr and Mrs Alex. \V. Martin were “ at home ’’ on Monday evening in the Tudor Hall in honour of the coming of ago of their only son Lloyd, a very largo number of guests doing honour to the occasion. Mr and Mrs Martin, assisted; by their son, received the guests in the lounge, Mrs Martin wearing a most becoming gown of gold lame with a floral design made over black frilled net. Tudor Hall was exquisitely decorated for the occasion with dainty spring blooms, while banks of 'massed cinerarias made glorious splashes of colour. Dancing was engaged in by the younger guests, the music being supplied by the Savoy Orchestra, while bridge tables wore set out in the lounge for those who preferred that form of amusement. Supper proved a very happy meal, many toasts being enthusiastically honoured. That of “ The Guest of the Evening ” was proposed by the Rev. W. A. Hamblett, a very old friend of the family, to which Mr Lloyd replied. The Rev. A. Wingfield proposed the toast of “The Parents," to which Mr Martin responded on behalf of himself and his wife. “ Absent Friends ” was proposed by Mr T. M'Crorie, who read a letter from Colonel Stoneham, of Gisborne, who was unable to be present. Many cables, telegrams, and letters were also received from distant friends. The popularity of the guest was shown by the beautiful presents he received, among which was a wallet well lined wilh noles, which was presented by Mr Robert Duncan on behalf of many donors.
