EXPLOSION ON SUBMARINE
FRENCH NAVAL DISASTER ORE KILLED, THIRTY-TWO INJURED Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. CHFKBOUKG, September 2d. (Received September 27, at 1.5 p.m.) Ton persons wore injured in an explosion on the French submarine Pcrsee, a sister ship of the Promothee, during her final trials. The captain wirelessed for assistance. Tugs are towing tire Persee to Cherbourg. The extent of the damage and the injuries are not known.
A later message states that the explosion occurred in the Diesel engine room and killed the engineer (Lccoq) fractured the skulls of three of the crow, and badly injured six others. Altogether thirty-two wore hurt in the explosion or the fire which followed. The flames were quickly extinguished. The men rushed to [he bridge and donned lifebelts preparatory to jumping into the sea, but the officers reassured them and ordered them to return to their stations. The explosion was caused by the bursting of an engine iyater jacket
