RICH IN ROMANCE AND THRILLS

WARNER BAXTER IN ' MAH ABOUT TOWN ' ‘ Man About Town,’ depicting be-hind-the-scenes life in the American capita), Washington, rich in romance and abounding in thrills, will begin at the St. James on Friday. ‘ Man About Town ’ relates the story of two men whose friendship was ironclad until both fell in love with the one woman. It is then that one of the men sots out to destroy the other. Warner Baxter, always a favourite, appears in the leading role, one that fits him perfectly. As the lover of the beautiful heroine, he is sincere and convincing, and as the suave proprietor of a fashionable gambling house he is at his smartest. Karen Morley, little known on the screen until she gave her superb performance in ‘ Arscne Lupin ’ with John and Lionel Barrymore, plays the leading feminine role, and is superb as the’ young woman who averts an international scandal, but gets herself into trouble. Conway Tearlc, who recently returned to the screen after a vacation spent on the stage, appears as the disappointed lover, and gives a performance that is pleasantly reminiscent of his earlier days in pictures. Splendid support of the principals is given by Lilian Bond, Alan Mowbray, Leni Stengel, Lawrence Grant, and Halliwell Hobbes. Box plans are at The Bristol.
