BRITISH BIRTH RATE
THE LATEST FIGURES RETURNS SHOW INCREASE. (British Official Wireless.) Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. RUGBY, September 22. The birth rate, which has been on the decline in Britain, shows an increase in the returns issued by the Registrar-General for the quarter ended June 30. There were in that period 165,456 births in England and Wales, or 1,696 more than in the corresponding quarter of last year, which corresponds to an annual rate of 16.6 per 1,000. The mortality of babies under one year is equal to 58 per 1,000 of live births.
