(Article Contributed by the Home Science Extension Service.) “ The judicious and wise use of time and work ’’—this is the true meaning of the word “ economy.” Ho not, then, let us always think of it only in terms of finance. It has a much wider and far-reaching application. Do you want ideas, then, about real practical economy ? Hints which will help you to make the most out of what you have? Ideas which will help you to make that reduced income go further? Do you want information about the actual budgeting of your income ? If you do, then visit the Thrift Exhibition which is to be held in the Early Settlers’ Hall on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 4 and 6, organised by the Otago Homo Economics Association. For some time past the members of this association have been working towards this effort, and the exhibition is sure to bo one of practical interest to everyone. The following paragraph gives some idea of the type of exhibits which are to be shown;1. An exhibit illustrating the renovating, remodelling, and making over of old garments, shoes, and hats. 2. An exhibit of useful articles which have been made from sugar sacks and flour bags. 3. An exhibit showing the practical use? to which the empty tins which collect about the house can be put. 4. An exhibit of home-made soap and home-made cleansers, with the recipes used in the making of these. 5. An exhibit of attractive and economical home-made toys. G. A demonstration—exhibit of the making and use of a home-made fireless cpoker and iceless ice box. 7. A demonstration—exhibit of the renovating of furniture at home—e.g., rowebbing, renewal of springs, and so on. 8. An exhibit illustrating the economical buying and cooking of meat. 9. A demonstration—exhibit showing uses of whole meal. 10. An exhibit of produce from the home garden. Those are just some of the many and varied exhibits which are to be set up. Could anything bo more practical P Then, as well as these exhibits, there are to be short food demonstrations on " economical cookery,” “ equipment,” and “ clothing ” 'talks dealing with some aspects of clothing economy. Those latter, to be given by the home science department of the University of Otago. If yon are interested, then, in this question of thrift—and in these days who among us is not?-—keep these two dates free—Tuesday and Wednesday, October 4 and 5, afternoon and even'ng—and visit the Early Settlers’ Hall.
