PRESBYTERIAN THEOLOGY.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I think it is imperative that the Synod of the Presbyterian Church should give some answer to the allegations being made against the teaching being meted' out to tho _ students at Knox College. I am not in a position to state whether this teaching is wrong or not, being not sufficiently informed in that respect, but I do think that tho Synod should be manly enough to give a reply, and not shirk the issue by shelving it.. I am fully aware than tho Rev. P. B. Fraser is often a little unwise in his methods of agitation, but we must not overlook the fact that this question is of vital interest to many others, and for that reason a reply should be given either one way or the other. Personally, I am pleased to note that there seems to be a better class of student at Knox Ccfllege today, as evidence by the mission recently held by them in Invercargill, also the open-air meeting at Dowling street, which has my heartiest support* But this may not be Dr Dickie’s fault, and we must not be unmindful to tho extent of higher criticism and High Church methods of many of our ministers. which are so destructive of tho simple faitlgof the Gospel. I had occasion to attend one of tho larger Presbyterian churches recently, and was disgusted at the order of tho service, with A-A-A-mens sandwiched' in, and I would not be surprised to see'candles there in the near future. The minister preached against the second coming of Christ, which is contrary to the teaching of Jesus, and, needless to say, tho church, which once was full, is now. half-empty. For this reason also we should stick to the good old Gospel, tor it is not the big church, the stainedglass windows, the organ, the new theology, or the “nice” preaching that counts these days, but, as Jesus said: “I. if I be lifted up, will draw all men unto Me.”—l am, etc., Cr « isTi a:: Student, August 29.
