GOOD TEMPLARY

Tho weekly meeting of the Rescue Lodge, No. 105, was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall, King Edward street, Kensington, on Tuesday last, when there was a good attendance of members. Visitors wore also present from the Hope of Caversham, Hope of Dunedin, and Star of Freedom Lodges, from whom greetings were received. C.T. Bro. E. J. lies presided. Several committees were set up for the ensuing quarter to deal with matters toward the advancement of the lodge and the order generally. In connection with tho centenary of tho Seven Men of Preston, to he held in Dunedin during September, a committee was sot up to arrange a suitable programme for the 6th inst., when parent lodges will bo invited to an “ open ” night on that date. Regret was expressed at the inability to attend, through illness, of tho superintendent of juvenile work, Bro. Jas. Hilton, and wishes for his recovery were expressed by the members. After tho usual business teams captained by tho acting V.T. and chaplain indulged in a quoits competition, which resulted in a win for tho former. Supper was provided, after which a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the visitors, and the usilftl ceremonies brought tho session to a close. C.T. Bro. R. Smith presided over the weekly meeting of tho Sunshine Junior Lodge. No. 4, held in the St. Andrew’s Church Sunday School Hall on Thursday last, when there was a good attendance of' members. The routine business was transacted, after which the sisters provided an amusing interlude. A community sing was also taken up whole-heartedly, and was carried on for quite a good while. Sister J. Thinn played a selection on tho piano, and earned hearty applause. The next week’s programme is in the hands of the officers, and something good is being looked forward to. Visitors were present from the Marmion Junior Lodge, and tt Welcome was accorded them. Tho usual ceremonies brought .the session to a close. Tho Star of tho South Juvenile Temple met in the Oddfellows’ Hall, King Edward street, Kensington, on Tuesday prior to the adult lodge, when a good attendance was presided over by Chief Templar Sister K. Caldwell. Visitors were present from the Sunshine Junior Lodge, Star of Victory Juvenile Temple, and Rescue Lodge, to whom a hearty welcome was extended. Sister Williamson (superintendent of Star of Victory) conveyed the greetings of that temple, and thanked the members . for their welcome. A confectionery competition was held, with the results as follow: —C.T. Sister K. Caldwell 1, P.O.T. Bro. E. Boulter 2 V I. Sister 1?. Smith 3, D.M. Bro. S. Smith 4. The judges commented very favourably on the efforts of the competitors. Items were rendered by tho following: —Recitations, Sisters M. Connor, P. Bundo, C. Phillips, A. Metcalf. A vote of sympathy was passed to Bro. Jas. Hilton in his illness, and hopes were expressed for his recovery and return to tho temple. , The Star of Victory Temple, No. -U, met on Monday, August 8, in the Kaikorai Presbyterian Sunday School Hall, with Sister H. Williamson (superintendent) in charge., P.C.T. Sister H. Thomson, in C.T. Sister J. Brown s absence, presided over a large attendance of members. Sister Cross (Star or Freedom) visited the temple. After the business a competition and games were in the hands of the assistant superintendent, Bro. L. Scott. Lollies and peanuts were distributed also. The Hope of Dunedin Lodge, No. 100, met on Wednesday in the old St. Jolni s Ambulance rooms, Harrop street. C.l. Bro. E. J. South presided over a fair attendance of members. Jh© item tho evening was “ Sisters’ Surprise. A number of novelty games were played, and the sisters provided supper. The Silver Star Temple, No. 9, met prior to the above, and Bro. H. Stephenson presided over a good attendance. Mrs Black, of Auckland, gave a very interesting talk on temperance, and the mooting closed. Bro. Gore gave his usual presentation of lollies. The Star of Freedom continues to keep the flag (lying in Knikorai, where a large number of members met in the Knikorai Presbyterian Sunday School Hall Bro A. Miller was initiated by the Chief Templar, Sister N. Williamson, who carried out her duties in a very able manner. Sister Cross reported ■on the juveniles to the effect that they wore iii a flourishing condition. The lodge was favoured with a visit from tho grand councillor, Bro. W. lies, and his wife, who spoke in the interest of Good Tcmplnry to the effect that if a man felt he had a duty to perform and was afraid to carry it out ho was a coward. Tho programme for the evening was contributed to by Sister N. Williamson. Sister S. Reynolds, Sifter Robinson, Sister Parker, Bro. 11. Miller, and Sister Flett.

The Hope of Cavorsham Lodge, No. 128, held its weekly meeting in Baxter

Hall, Marion street, on Thursday. C.T. Bro. R. Crawshaw presided over a fair attendance of members and visitors from Rescue and Hope of Dunedin Lodges. Favourable reports were given on junior lodges by Sister Mrs Leishraan. Members were reminded of the forthcoming district lodge meeting. Bro. Williams gave the greetings of Hope of Dunedin Lodge and Silver Star Temple. The item for the evening was Mock Parliamentary Elections/* with feister Mrs Pauli in charge. The Radiant Morn Temple, No. 21, was largely attended on Saturday^evening when the meeting was held in tlie Methodist Sunday School, Mornington, C.T. Bro. Len. Hornal presiding with a full attendance of officers. Bro. Harold White conducted a community sing, Sister M. Burgess (piano) and .Bro. G. lies (accordion) being the accompanists. '
