LAW STUDENTS’ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL DINNER Some fifty students and members of the legal profession were present at the annual dinner of the Law Students’ Association, which was held at the O.K. Cafe on Saturday evening. Mr J. H. Kemnitz, vice-president of the association, was in the chair, and the function was honoured by the presence of Sir Thomas Sidey (the Chancellor of the University), Mr .1. B. Callan (dean of the Law Faculty), Mr J. B. Nichol (president of the Otago Law Society), and other lecturers and members of the profession. Apologies were received from His Honour Mr Justice Kennedy, Sir Charles Statham, and Messrs J. R. Bartholomew, S.M., and H. W. Bundle, S.M. The toast of “ The Bench and Bar ” was proposed by Mr I. B. Stevenson, who referred to the excellent relations which had always existed between the members of the local bar and the students, and was responded to by Mr J. B. Nichol. who related some interesting reminiscences of earlier days in the bar, and concluded with some words of advice to those entering (he profession. .Air •). \A'. IToworth proposed the toast of “ Alma Ala tor,” and Sir Thomas Sides' replied in a speech which was listened to with great interest by those present. Other toasts honoured were: “ The Lecturers,” proposed by
Mr AV A. Race, and responded to by Air J. B. Callan; “ 0.U.5.A.,” proposed by Air AI. Joel and. responded to by Air j. AI. Butler; “Kindred I acuities,” proposed by Air E. S. Tuckwell, and responded to by Air A. K. Ibbotson; and “The Law Faculty, proi posed by Air C. B. Barrowclough, and ! responded to by Mr Kemnitz.
