LADIES’ HOCKEY

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE Tlio weekly meeting of tlie executive of the Otago Ladies’ Hockey Association was held last evening. Present: — Mrs G. A. Nelson (in the chair), Mrs Sonutag, Misses Adams, Sargeant, Mullenger, Anderson, Blagdon, and Hill. Mrs R Hudson and Miss M. Hervey apologised for their absence. On the New Zealand Tournament Committee Miss M. Hervey was nominated as the representative from the Otago Association.

A letter was received from the South Otago Ladies’ .Hockey Sub-association accepting the invitation to send in one A team and one B team to play Dunedin teams on August C. It was decided that the matches against South Otago and against Maniototo should bo played at Logan Park, the match against Maniototo to commence at 2 o’clock, the B grade match against South Otago at 2.30 p.m., and the A grade match against South Otago at 3 p.m. With reference to the ordinary grade matches, it was decided that one more Saturday’s matches be played in the A grade, and that the B and C grades continue until the date of the New Zealand championship tournament. Votes of thanks were passed to the members of the Referees’ Association for their assistance as M.C.’s and doorkeepers at-' the recent dance held by the association. As the dance had been such a financial success, it was decided that another one should be held- in about a fortnight’s time for the {purpose of raising more funds in connection with the New Zealand tournament, and players are being asked to give this as much support as they gave the last.

A circular was received from the Maniototo Ladies’ Hockey Sub-associa-tion with reference to its seven-a-side tournament, to be held this year at Ranfurly on August 20. The secretary intimated that the various Dunedin clubs had been advised of this tournament.

A letter was received from the Primary Schoolgirls’ Hockey Committee asking permission to hold its annual, seven-a-side tournament on the Oval oh the morning of August l>. The necessary permission was granted. In connection with the matches to be held at Logan Park next Saturday it was decided that school hockey players should be admitted free, provided they were accompanied by a teacher.

A letter was received from the South Canterbury Ladies’ Hockey Association advising it had entered a team for the New Zealand championship tournament to be held in Dunedin at the end of this month.

In connection with the foregoing teams, any player not available for the New Zealand championship tournament, if selected for either team, aro asked to withdraw from the trial, and notify the secretary immediately, so that arrangements can be made to fill their places. A practice will be held, at 5 o’clock sharp on Wednesday at the Oval, and also further practices after the games next Saturday.
