SOCCER F.A. TROPHY
AUCKLAND'S CHALLENGE No Association football match previously staged in Dunedin has excited so much interest among all classes of sport as that set down for Saturday} next, when Otago will defend the F.A., trophy against the Auckland challenge. _ Aucklaild has not visited Dunedin since 1927, when they defeated; the local side by 2 goals to 1. This wasi when they were the most outstanding team in the dominion, but since that period the game in Otago has gone, ahead wonderfully, and the team as selected, _ showing three changes from that which defended challenges from Canterbury and Wellington, is regarded as being considerably strengthened and standing every chance of keeping the trophy in Otago. The Auckland representatives will arrive in Dunedin on Friday evening, and they are very keep' to take the trophy back with themThe northern province held the trophy for six years in succession, and the present team is regarded as being a great? side.
Despite the heavy rain of last week* Logan Park was in capital order last Saturday for the Fletcher Cup matches* and there is every cause to anticipate that good going will be provided for: the trophy event. A splendid view ofi the ground is obtainable from all! angles. If the ground is in first-class condition a curtain-raiser will bo staged between the primary schoolboys’ representative teams prior to their departure; to take part in the annual tournament* to be played a Greymouth this month* In anticipation of a record attendance* arrangements have been made with the! tramways department to run extra cars and buses to and from the ground.
