(Received July 6, at 10.30 a.m.) At the wool sales 10,729 bales were offered, including 2,518 from New Zealand. Approximately’ 4,825 bales were sold. There was a fairly good selection and a large attendance, with keen competition, chiefly on Home account. Continental buyers were fairly active. There were some withdrawals owing to high limits. Compared with June closing rates, medium and inferior merinos were 5 per cent, higher, and good 7) per cent, higher. Cross-breds, medium and low, were 5, and best 7\ per cent, higher. Slipes, medium and coarse were 5, and fine 10 per cent, higher. New Zealand greasy cross-breds, “ Boxhilla,” top 9Jd, average 7Jd; slipe, lamb, “ Gear,” 83d and 63d. There was a full attendance at the opening of the sales to-day, competition by Home buyers being spirited. Competition on Continental account is fairly active. As compared with last sale’s closing rates, prices are higher par to $d lb for greasy merino; higher -Jd to Id lb for crossbred shpe and scoured merino; higher id lb for scoured and greasy cross-bred. The National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand Ltd. has received a cable from its London office, dated July 6, as follows: The auctions opened here to-day with a large attendance of Home and Continental buyers—strong competition, especially Bradford. Compared with closing rates of last sales, wo quote: Greasy merino (best), Jd to 3d per lb dearer; average, id to 3d. Half-breds, 50-56, id per In dearer. Cross-breds, 48-50, i-d to -Jd; 46-48, id to id; 44-46, id to id; 40-44, id; 36-40, id per lb dearer. Scoured wools have advanced correspondingly with greasy. Slipes (combing), id to 3d per lb dearer; clothing, id to id. As at present arranged, the sales will close on July 20.

The Bank of New Zealand has received the following advice from its London office, dated July s: The sales have opened with strong competition and a large attendance of buyers.
