MAKING UP TIME LOST PRESENT RATIONING TO CONTINUE Consideration has been given by the Works Committee of the City Council to representations made by the deputation from the General Labourers’ Union on the subject of the present system of rationing: work, and also the loss of time through bad weather. The deputation has now been advised that arrangements will ha made for all time lost through wet weather to be made up during the stand-down week. With regard to the question of rationing, the position has again been carefully reviewed, but it is regretted that there appears to be no other satisfactory system of rationing which would fit in with the existing financial disabilities of the board. It is clear that the only alternative to the system of rationing, having due regard to the limited amount of loan money available, would be a reduction in the number of the staff. The union has accordingly been advised to that effect bv the committee.
